Sales and Marketing Intern, Ryan Homes

In this internship, I began the summer shadowing the division and sales managers of the Cleveland South division. This was excellent because I saw how the company was run. The second part of the internship was working on the Market Background Guide. For this I gathered and analyzed information about demographics, customers, competitors, and the company's overall strategy for the next 5 years, which was a pretty intense project.  The final part of my internship was physically being out in the field with the Sales and Marketing Representatives in the models and aiding them in meeting and greeting customers as well as appointment scheduling and holding. This internship gave me first hand experience in a variety of settings. I truly enjoyed my experience with Ryan Homes, so much that I accepted a full time position for after graduation!

Summer Intern, Ohio Dept. of Transportation, Public Information Office

I was responsible for writing daily news releases, writing the monthly D-3 newsletter, planning events on short notice, gathering materials for the county fairs, working some shifts at the ODOT booth during fairs, and was a secretary for the Combined Charitable Campaign, which I also helped with. Some highlights of my internship are: having planned a U.S. Route 30 groundbreaking in Wooster that the Governor and Director of Transportation attended; helped staff and supply the eight county fairs in District Three; wrote press releases on road openings and closings every week and most of the stories for The Legend, District Three's employee newsletter. Internships are a great way to get your foot into the real world and experience what you may someday want to do as a career!

Walt Disney World-All Star Resort Orlando, FL

I learned about the internship in high school when I went to Disney World. When I came to college, the Disney College Program came to campus. They had a presentation and sign ups if you were interested. After the presentation, there were interviews. About a month after my interview, I heard back that I was accepted.

My major responsibilities were the front desk, guest service and luggage assistance. I was promoted for a month at the end to do a Resort Research Study. Internships are a great experience to be able to better understand what you will expect when you graduate from college- and this internship did confirm my career choice.

Summer Intern for Ross Products, Abbott Laboratories, Immunology Department (Columbus, OH)

During my internship, I had to learn and understand aseptic techniques for mammalian cell culture, establish and maintain continuous cultures of four human cell lines, perform measurements of immunoregulatory molecules, become proficient in the techniques and procedures of everyday lab management, and help design experiments to determine the nature of immune regulation. Some of the highlights of my internship include getting to 'shadow' in the neonatal intensive care unit; take part in a corporate journal club; sit in on a seminar by an Ohio State professor; run my own experiments; have orientation within each area/department of Ross. I learned something new everyday! My advice on internships is to start looking EARLY, and try to get as many internships as you can throughout your college career.

Summer Intern for Aggressive Sound (Kent, OH)

Through my work with Tech Crew, I got the internship with Aggressive Sound and was able to work with numerous bands. I learned a lot about operating a small business and producing a concert. Some of my responsibilities were to maintain sound equipment, set up and tear down stage equipment, perform sound checks and ride the sound levels during the concerts. My advice to other students about internships is have fun, work hard, and don't burn your bridges!

Summer Intern, Adult Parole Authority (Mansfield, OH)

I really liked parole and probation, and I would consider it for a possible career option. The experience definitely confirmed that I want to be in the field of Criminal Justice. I was able to conduct a variety of interviews with offenders of different levels, administer drug tests; complete assessments and re-assessments; observe court hearings, sentencing, drug court and re-entry court; and participate in home visits, placements, and victim impact statements. I met judges, prosecutors, probation and police officers. I was able to conduct pre-sentence investigation interviews, first-time offender interviews, and process independent paperwork. I would advise students to take advantage of the many different internships available! Not only will you have the opportunity to get real-life experience, but you will meet people who could be valuable to your future!

Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fames & Museum Intern

At the Rock Hall I was an intern in the Exhibits department. With the Exhibits department I helped to set up and prepare artifacts for exhibition. Some of the artifacts I was able to handle were amazing...things people dream of touching! Two of my favorites were the Supremes gowns and Ray Charles' sunglasses (from which I translated a Braille inscription inside to mean 'Eternal love, A.K.'). Also, the Rock Hall contracted me to design and construct some fabric treatments which are currently hanging in some of their larger exhibits. I designed and made a pair of red curtains for the 'Tommy: The Who' exhibit and some black and red stage skirting for the Ray Charles exhibit. I was very proud to hear that the skirting I designed "Really made the exhibit" (said many of the higher ups at the museum). I was just glad to have been able to have the opportunity to work with such great artifacts and people at the Rock Hall and am sad to leave them.

Price Waterhouse Coopers Intern

During my internship I learned how to process tax returns. I did individual returns, as well as a few corporate and partnership returns. I did not have any knowledge of tax before this, so I had a lot of hands on training. I worked with so many great people and had a wonderful experience. I plan to obtain my BSBA in Accountancy at John Carroll in May 2006 and then my Masters in Tax at the University of Denver.

Graphic Design Internship
The goals of my internship with the International Women's Air and Space Museum were to create space plans to convert a non-functional multi-purpose space into a storage space for the expansion of the museum's extensive collection of artifacts and records. I also had to learn and comply with ADA requirements. The internship gave me opportunities to exercise my Auto CAD skills, network, make decisions, assist in selecting and purchasing office furnishings, supervise volunteers and staff, do field work, and handle and preserve artifacts.

Sacred Art Inventory Intern

Working with the Cleveland Catholic Diocese on the Sacred Landmarks Inventory project has proven to be a wonderful internship experience! I have been mapping, photographing and documenting stained glass windows in local churches. This has required extensive archival research concerning not only the architectural and social history of the church, but also the interpretive meaning of the subject matter depicted in the windows. My supervisor, the Director of Archival Research for the Diocese, has been a great encouragement and has helped me get the best learning experience out of my internship.

This internship has been a great learning experience for me.

Research & Development Intern

Receiving an internship at Columbia Chemical has proven to be an excellent opportunity for me. As a sophomore chemistry major, this internship provides me with on-the-job experience to put my classroom knowledge into use in the ‘real world.’ As an intern, I am responsible for testing coatings over steel substrates, operating lab equipment, recording and report writing of my results. This internship is not only teaching me the skills needed to be a part of a team in a workplace environemnt, but it is also solidifying everything I have learned thus far in my educational career. I am grateful for this opportunity.

Marketing Intern

During my internship at Think-A-Move I was responsible for conducting market research for several market segments related to the technology being produced by the company. I also assisted in writing sections for business plans and presentations for investors. I gained valuable experience working for a small company, learned excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills, and developed my writing capacity. This internship has been an excellent experience for me.

I found this job on ClevelandIntern.net about a year ago and will likely find my next internship here as well. It has been a great resource. Thanks!

Corporate Programs Intern

Although I attend school outisde the region, I was able to secure an exciting internship with PolyOne, an important employer in this region. PolyOne is an international company with corporate headquarters in Avon Lake, Oh.

In my internship with PolyOne I am working with corporate programs and am having a blast doing it. The Company culture and values are directly inline with my own personal values, and my co-workers and boss, Jeff Hudson, have been very supportive in mentoring me. With this internship, I have been able to take my years of classroom learning and apply it and live it in the real world!

Credit & Collections Analyst

In this internship I am responsible for issuing credit to companies who purchase from Noveon.

I work with accounts receivable and the purchasing department, however the credit department is my actual division. I oversee up to $250,000 in credit to companies around the globe. I establish credit lines for them and analyze their credit history and past performance.

I run reports on companies, find information and deal with accounts payable from their companies. I operate on AS-400, which is the database for all of our companies. I analyze previous transactions for accuracy, current transactions for promptness and determine the risk assessment of the companies I oversee.

I gained great experience working with accounts receivable/payable, credit histories, report
analysis, software familiarity with JD Edwards, and understanding how corporations work with each other in a market economy today. Hands on opportunities give me the chance to expand my knowledge and further my development professionally.
